Need Assistance with Payments?

At Sterling Savings Bank, we pride ourselves on a unique combination of full-service banking and a personal customer connection. As part of this commitment we would like to provide you with the following information on how to protect your home when faced with financial hardships with your mortgage.

Options

Everyone goes through financial hardships from time to time during the course of their lifetime. If you are dealing with a financial difficulty and are having trouble keeping up with your mortgage payments, the following options may help to keep you on track:

  • Contact U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for assistance.

  • HUD is a U.S. government agency that increases home ownership, supports community development and increases access to affordable housing through local community partnerships. HUD offers free or low-cost counseling throughout the country. Their counselors can help you create a monthly budget plan to keep your mortgage payments up to date. HUD can also provide you referrals to other housing counseling agencies. To find out where the nearest HUD counseling agency is in your area, please contact 1-800-569-4287.

Financial Documents You Should Have Ready

There are a few documents that you might find useful to have on hand when speaking to either your Sterling lender or a housing counselor.

  • Your loan or account number
  • Recent income documents such as:
    • Pay stubs
    • Benefit statements from Social Security, disability, unemployment, retirement or public assistance
    • Tax returns or a profit and loss statement
    • A list of your household expenses
