Sterling Savings Bank encourages you to use the following online safety tips when using Net Banking or other provider’s online services:
- Do not share your private or personal information (including, but not limited to, your User ID, password, account number, card number, PIN, and Social Security Number or any other sensitive information.
- Do not leave your private or personal information where it is accessible by others, including on your computer screen. When possible, lock your computer prior to leaving and consider enabling a password-protected screen-saver to automatically lock your computer.
- Be skeptical of all requests for your personal information regardless of whether they are made via unsolicited calls, e-mail, SMS (text) messages, or web pages. Contact your local Sterling branch or the Customer Service department at 1-800-650-7141 to confirm any request for personal information.
- Change your password on a regular basis. We recommend changing your password every 90 days or as soon as possible if you have any reason to suspect others may know it.
- Do not use an easy to guess password such as a child’s name, pet’s name or your first or last name. A more secure password should be at least 8 characters long and include a combination of numbers, upper & lowercase letters, as well as special characters such as “!”, “@”, “#”, “$”, “%”, “&”, “*”, “(“, “+”, “=”, “?”, and/or “;”.
- Do not send your private or personal information over any public or general e-mail or text message system. E-mail or text message are generally not secure or encrypted and unauthorized parties may easily read the contents.
- Do not login or access Sterling Online Banking services from a public or shared use computer if you are unable to verify the software installed does not record your keystrokes or online activity.
- Do not leave your computer unattended while you are logged into Online Banking.
- Secure your computer by utilizing a personal firewall and running updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software to reduce the possibility of having information you type captured and sent to unauthorized parties.
- Immediately report any unauthorized or suspicious activity on your account and report any lost or stolen personal information to your local Sterling branch or our Customer Service department at 1-800-650-7141.
- Use the Exit button to end each Internet Banking session. Avoid just closing the browser window to exit the site.
- Check your account information on a regular basis. Online Banking makes it easy!
- For security reasons, Sterling recommends that you use latest version of your Internet browser.
