“Phishing” Emails (Email Fraud)

"Phishing" e-mails are e-mail messages used to "lure" online victims into providing personal and confidential information such as passwords, Social Security numbers, and account numbers. Phishing messages often appear to be from businesses that are well known by the victim, and asking you to verify or update personal information. They often include a contact link to a counterfeit ("spoofed") website with a pop-up window or even a fraudulent automated 1-800 number.

How to recognize a valid Sterling Savings Bank e-mail:
Sterling will never send an e-mail that requires customers to send private or personal information to us via email or pop-up windows. Any unsolicited request for Sterling Savings Bank account or personal information you receive through emails, websites, or pop-up windows should be considered fraudulent.
