Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personally information, such as your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), identity theft is the fastest growing and most far-reaching financial crime in the U.S. today.
